Visiting Our South Lanarkshire Sumdog Maths Contest Winners

2 min read

Sumdog, the Scotland-based maths and spelling platform used by schools across South Lanarkshire, recently visited a number of local primary schools to celebrate pupils’ success in their recent Sumdog maths contest and to spend time with teachers and learners.

Over two days, members of the Sumdog team visited schools in Carnwath, Larkhall, Cambuslang and Hamilton to present prizes to contest winners, take part in school assemblies, and celebrate pupils’ achievements and enthusiasm for maths.

During the visits, Sumdog staff awarded trophies and certificates to winning classes and pupils in school assemblies, recognising both effort and achievement in front of their peers. The assemblies highlighted pupils’ hard work throughout the contest and celebrated the positive attitudes towards maths shown across participating schools.

Alongside the prize-giving assemblies, the Sumdog team also spent time in schools meeting with teachers and pupils to discuss how Sumdog is used in the classroom, gather feedback, and share ideas on supporting learning through engaging, personalised practice. Several visits included live classroom sessions and opportunities for wider teacher engagement and professional discussion.

One of the school visits (Woodside Primary School) also featured a special “See it, you can be it” session, where pupils learned more about Sumdog as a Scottish education technology company, explored different career pathways in technology, education and games, and saw real-world examples of how maths and digital skills can be used beyond the classroom.

“It’s incredibly important to us to celebrate achievements in local schools in Scotland where Sumdog started,” said Moe, School Success Manager at Sumdog. “We loved visiting schools in South Lanarkshire and seeing pupils feel proud of their hard work. These moments really help learners build confidence and show them that maths can actually be fun and something everyone can engage with.”

“The engagement from the pupils has been phenomenal, they are so excited looking at leaderboards against each other, other classes and schools. The buzz has been fantastic. The children all worked so hard, we didn't ever imagine that we would win it but I think largely due to the hard work that the children have put in it's so nice to have that rewarded.”

The South Lanarkshire school visits formed part of Sumdog’s ongoing commitment to supporting Scottish schools by helping children build confidence in maths and spelling through fun, motivating and personalised learning experiences.
