What Is the Curriculum for Excellence?

The Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) is Scotland’s national curriculum framework, built to nurture successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. It provides clear experiences, outcomes and benchmarks across all curriculum areas, including numeracy and literacy.

Sumdog’s games, questions and assessments are carefully mapped to these CfE benchmarks, so every pupil benefits from personalised, curriculum-aligned practice that fits seamlessly alongside your classroom teaching.

How Sumdog Supports Maths CfE Benchmarks

We have collaborated with teachers nationwide to ensure that Sumdog aligns with the CfE maths benchmarks for Early, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.

Sumdog’s assessments provide a clear picture of where pupils are in relation to CfE expectations. Teachers can use:

  • Maths diagnostic tests
  • Progress reports by CfE level

These assessments help inform planning, interventions and next steps.

Pupil Equity Funding (PEF)

Almost every school in Scotland receives Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) to help improve outcomes for children and young people. While PEF is designed to support pupils from low-income households, many schools choose to invest part of this funding in Sumdog, giving teachers an engaging way to support maths learning in class and at home.

To explore how Sumdog can form part of your PEF strategy, take a look at our guide to PEF and Sumdog.
