Curriculum for Excellence

From ages three to 18, pupils in Scotland follow the Curriculum for Excellence developed by Education Scotland and the Scottish Government. At Sumdog, we support this journey by mapping our maths and spelling activities to the curriculum benchmarks. This allows teachers to trust that every task builds key skills while aligning with Scotland’s national curriculum, helping them track progress and empower every child to succeed.

About Curriculum for Excellence

The Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) is Scotland’s national curriculum framework for learners aged 3–18, designed to build the knowledge and skills children need for learning, life and work in the 21st century. It focuses on four core capacities — successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors — supporting progression from early to senior levels. Education Scotland

Sumdog’s maths and spelling practice is carefully aligned to CfE benchmarks, meaning teachers can trust that pupil activity on the platform reinforces what’s being taught in the classroom.

Mathematics Aligned to CfE

We have collaborated with teachers nationwide to ensure that Sumdog aligns with the CfE maths benchmarks for Early, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels.

Pupil Equity Funding (PEF)

Almost every school in Scotland receives Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) from the government to enhance pupils’ education. Pupil Equity Funding is to support children from low-income households, but you can also use allocated PEF to purchase Sumdog to enable teachers to engage students in the classroom and at home. To find out more, read our guide to PEF and Sumdog.
