In 2010, our founder Andrew Hall set out to build an engaging platform that would help every child enjoy practicing maths and level the playing field for all learners.
Today, Sumdog is used by millions of children worldwide. Designed for ages 5–14, it provides personalized numeracy and spelling practice, using game-based learning to keep students motivated and build their confidence.

Sumdog is born
At Sumdog HQ in Edinburgh, Andrew Hall launches the first iteration of the Sumdog we know today as a way to engage students in math learning through gamification.
Sumdog reaches 1 million users
Sumdog reaches one million users worldwide, a huge milestone for the team.

The platform now offers complete primary math curriculum coverage across the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Sumdog Spelling arrives
Sumdog Spelling is released using human voice recordings and covering essential spelling skills, key sounds, rules, patterns, and vocabulary.
Proven impact
An independent study conducted in Glasgow, UK shows that using Sumdog for 30 minutes a week almost doubles a child's fluency progress.
3D avatar and house launch
Our 3D avatar and house is launched, offering a greater choice of inclusive personalization to help more children feel represented on Sumdog.

Get to know Sumdog
Sumdog is 15 years old. The company was founded in 2010 by founder Andrew Hall in Edinburgh, UK.
Sumdog supports children aged 5-14 with math practice and children aged 5-11 with spelling and grammar.
On Sumdog, children are kept engaged while they learn, with multiple-choice questions seamlessly integrated into 39 games.
With personalized avatars and exciting virtual rewards, children are motivated to improve their skills and become more confident learners.
Teachers can set targeted practice for students to complete as they play, or run low-stakes tests to check understanding in the familiar Sumdog environment.
