Get to know Rhidian James, Project Manager of our Sumdog Maths Welsh translation, coming September 2026.

A Bit About You

Hi, my name's Rhidian and I've recently joined the Sumdog Team to lead the Welsh localisation project, ensuring that the language used is clear, natural and appropriate for learners across Wales.

I’m a bilingual educator and project lead with 17 years’ experience working in Welsh and English-medium education. Having taught and led primary school curriculum development as well as teach maths in Welsh comprehensive schools, I have extensive experience supporting pupils, teachers and school leaders to deliver high-quality learning in both Welsh and English and bring deep insight into how pupils learn and engage with language in the classroom.

Following my teaching career, I also work with Cymbrogi Futures as a School Liaison and Welsh Development Lead, building partnerships with schools, private stakeholders and supporting the development of Welsh educational resources.

One of the things that really excites me about this project is the impact Sumdog can have on pupils’ confidence and enjoyment of learning. As a teacher, I’ve seen how powerful it is when children engage with maths through something fun and interactive. Being part of the work to make that experience available in Welsh, and making sure the language feels natural and meaningful for pupils, is something I’m really proud to be involved in.

Sumdog Maths is already fully aligned with the Curriculum for Wales, supporting progression across all strands of the mathematics and numeracy framework. To build on this, we’re introducing newly translated Welsh-medium content for Years 1–6, carefully localised to feel natural and age-appropriate for learners in Wales. This content will be available from September, helping schools deliver consistent, engaging maths practice in both Welsh and English.

We'll be sharing what's happening behind the scenes and ways for you to get involved between now and summer so make sure to register for updates below.
